Physical Intervention Course (C&R) Grade 4
Course Overview:
This important course looks at non restrictive restraint techniques. Within this course participants will be taught how to restrain safely as a two, three and four staff team, standing,seated and floor de-escalation techniques. The techniques taught on this course are disseminated thoughout as a very last resort and should work in tandam with your organisational policy. This course also follows the NIMHE and NICE guidelines on the prevention and management of violence and aggression.
Please note: We do not advocate the use of pain compliance techniques.
Course objectives:
By the end of the course the students will be able to:
- Work in a two, three and four staff team to physically restain a client for their safety or the safety of others, using a range of approaches.
- Use appropriate techniques to the level of aggression presented
- Implement a risk assessment before physically intervening with restaint techniques
- Safely separate two clients fighting.
- Safely seclude a client using a seclusion room & specific restraint techniques
- Enter and exit a vehicle
- Demonstate awareness of the risks associated with restraint.
- Report and document the restraint
