Course Overview:
Our very popular and cost effective Grade 5 course is a combination of Breakaway Techniques and Non Restrictive Restraint at a low level. This course is one of our most requested courses from many residental homes with clients that exibit challenging behaviour and require physical intervention by staff. This course has also been taught to teachers working in schools with young people who display disruptive and aggressive behaviour in the classroom.
Course objectives:
By the end of the course the students will be able to:
- Work in a two, staff team to physically restain a client for their safety or the safety of others, using a range of approaches.
- Use appropriate techniques to the level of aggression presented
- Implement a risk assessment before physically intervening with restaint techniques
- Safely separate two clients fighting.
- Demonstate awareness of the risks associated with restraint.
- Report and document the restraint
- Breakaway from an aggressor using a range of techniques and reasonable force
- Use basic de-escalation techniques to defuse a situation
- Have an awareness of personal safety
